The ward covers the villages of Ashurst, Bramshaw, Copythorne and Netley Marsh on the western edge of the New Forest in Hampshire, England. It’s a patchwork of heathland, ancient oak and beech woodland, small farms and scattered hamlets; Ashurst acts as a handy gateway with a little railway halt, while the other settlements sit among commons, lanes and pockets of traditional countryside housing.
With roots in the royal forest established in the 11th century, the area still shows strong commoning traditions - grazing ponies and cattle, old footpaths and a visitor economy built around walking, cycling and wildlife watching. Local life blends agriculture, tourism and small services, with many residents commuting to nearby towns such as Southampton; conservation interests, housing pressure and a long-standing rural community all shape the social and economic character.
