Waterlooville is a town in the borough of Havant, in Hampshire, England, sitting roughly five miles north of Portsmouth on the approach to the south coast. It occupies gentle downland with convenient access to the South Downs and local green spaces such as Staunton Country Park, and benefits from good road links to the M27 and the A3, making it a practical base for commuters and shoppers.
The name famously derives from a local inn’s celebrations of the Battle of Waterloo, and the settlement grew from a rural crossroads into a suburban shopping and residential centre through the 19th and 20th centuries. Today Waterlooville has a busy town centre with a precinct and retail parks, a mix of housing and light industry, and a community feel with schools, sports clubs and local events; many residents commute to naval, maritime and other employers in nearby Portsmouth and the wider south Hampshire economy.
