Dibden and Dibden Purlieu sit on the eastern edge of the New Forest in Hampshire, overlooking salt marshes and Southampton Water. The ward combines a small historic village feel with post‑war suburban growth: low wooded hills and heath give way to marshes and estuary views across to Fawley and the Isle of Wight, making it handy for walkers and birdwatchers as well as commuters.
The name "Purlieu" hints at its past as land once outside strict forest law, and much of the modern settlement grew in the 20th century. Locally the economy and employment are shaped by proximity to the port and industrial sites around Southampton and Fawley, while community life centres on schools, small shops and village halls, with a mix of long‑standing residents and younger families who value easy access to both the National Park and coastal amenities.
