The Worthys is a cluster of villages to the north‑east of Winchester in Hampshire, England, centred on the small communities of Kings Worthy, Headbourne Worthy and Martyr Worthy. Set in the chalky valley of the River Itchen, the area is prized for its water meadows, chalk stream habitats (part of the Itchen’s SSSI designation) and a network of footpaths such as the Itchen Way, making it popular with walkers and cyclists while retaining a distinctly rural feel close to the city.
Locally the Worthys combine historic parish churches, listed cottages and occasional manor houses with more recent housing and a commuter population who work in Winchester or nearby Southampton. There’s a strong village community life - parish councils, local schools, village halls and village pubs - and the balance of conservation areas, green spaces and convenient links into the city gives the area both a peaceful character and subtle economic ties to the wider region.
