Kington is a small market town in north‑west Herefordshire, close to the border with Wales, sitting in the valley of the River Arrow beneath the open ridges of Hergest Ridge and the Black Mountains. Its dramatic countryside makes it a popular base for walkers and birdwatchers and the surrounding hills are crossed by stretches of Offa's Dyke; Hergest Ridge is also known for its musical association with Mike Oldfield’s album of the same name.
Historically a market town with medieval origins, Kington retains a compact high street of Georgian and Victorian buildings and a mix of independent shops, cafés and galleries. The local economy leans on agriculture, tourism and small businesses, and an active community life - with a local museum, markets and seasonal events - gives the town a lively, village‑scale feel within England.
