Richards Castle is a small rural parish in Herefordshire sitting right on the county boundary with Shropshire, with a twin settlement of the same name just over the border. It feels characteristically borderland - rolling farmland, hedgerows and pockets of woodland - and is within easy reach of the market town of Ludlow, so many residents combine local farming with commuting to nearby towns.
The place is best known for the earthwork remains of an early Norman motte-and-bailey and a compact historic village core with a traditional parish church, giving it a strong sense of local history. Social life revolves around village and church events, and the local economy is largely agricultural with some small businesses and trades serving the surrounding rural community.
