Stourport-on-Severn sits in the district of Wyre Forest, Worcestershire, England, at the confluence of the River Stour and the River Severn. It grew up in the late 18th century around the basin where the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal joined the river, becoming an important inland port and leaving a distinctive waterside townscape of Georgian and Victorian buildings.
Today the town still has a strong canal and boating culture with boatyards, waterside cafés and regular river events, while its economy is a mix of light industry, shops and commuter links into nearby Kidderminster and Worcester. Its position close to the ancient woodland of the Wyre Forest also makes it a handy base for outdoor recreation and riverside walking.
