Ashwell is a compact, historic village and civil parish in North Hertfordshire, Hertfordshire, England, set on the chalk country at the edge of the Chiltern Hills. The village centre is characterised by stone and flint buildings, a pleasant village green and lanes lined with cottages, giving it a distinctly rural, conservation-area feel while being within easy reach of the market town of Baldock.
Locally notable features include the large medieval parish church of St Mary, the small but well-regarded Ashwell Museum, and the chalk springs around the village that feed the headwaters of the River Cam and are valued for their wildlife. Today Ashwell combines farming and local services with a commuter community, with people travelling to Cambridge, London and nearby towns for work, while retaining lively village clubs, a pub culture and annual events.
