Harpenden North & Rural is the largely residential and agricultural ward on the northern edge of Harpenden in the St. Albans district of Hertfordshire, England. It sits close to the scarp of the Chiltern Hills, mixing commuter suburbs with open arable fields, commons and hedgerows, and is notable for its proximity to Rothamsted Research, one of the oldest agricultural research institutes in the world.
The area combines a village atmosphere of pubs, sports clubs and farmers' markets with an economically mixed but generally prosperous population who commute into London; local life is shaped by strong greenbelt protections, conservation interests and active community groups that protect its rural character. Historic lanes and grand suburban houses nod to its Victorian and Edwardian growth, while modern pressures around housing and transport remain part of local debate.
