Blean is a small village and civil parish on the northern edge of Canterbury in Kent, forming a quiet, largely residential hinterland to the city. It sits beside the extensive Blean Woods, an important area of ancient coppiced woodland and a designated nature reserve, which gives the locality a strong rural character despite its proximity to urban amenities.
Historically the area supplied timber and charcoal to nearby towns and today retains flint-built cottages, country lanes and a few local pubs and shops; many residents commute into Canterbury or nearby coastal towns such as Whitstable. The combination of accessible countryside, woodland wildlife and a small‑village feel makes Blean distinctive in the wider Kent landscape.
