The area covering Boughton Monchelsea and Chart Sutton lies a few miles south of Maidstone in Kent, tucked into rolling countryside on the northern edge of the North Downs. It retains a largely rural character of mixed arable farmland, orchards and pockets of woodland, with traditional village housing, a couple of local pubs and a quiet, community-orientated feel despite good commuting links to Maidstone and London.
Historically the landscape reflects local ragstone quarrying and long-standing agricultural use, and the area includes the timber-framed Tudor manor Boughton Monchelsea Place alongside village churches and historic cottages. Social life tends to centre on village halls, seasonal fĂȘtes and local clubs, and the local economy is a mix of small-scale farming, trades and residents who commute to work in the county town or further afield.
