Aylesford is a large village in the borough of Tonbridge and Malling, in Kent, England, lying on the banks of the River Medway a short distance from Maidstone. Its position on the riverside gives it pleasant walking and cycling routes and a cluster of pubs and small businesses along the waterfront, while a station on the Medway Valley Line and nearby roads make it a popular commuter base for the Medway towns and London fringe.
The village has notable history and culture: Aylesford Priory (often known as The Friars) is a well‑used religious and visitor site, and important Iron Age discoveries at nearby Swarling have given their name to the Aylesford–Swarling archaeological culture. Today the mix of historic buildings, riverside leisure and light industry gives Aylesford a character that blends heritage with the everyday social life of a Kentish riverside community.
