Newsome is a ward in the metropolitan borough of Kirklees, immediately to the west and south-west of Huddersfield town centre. It occupies the lower slopes that lead up towards the Pennines, with a patchwork of Victorian terraces, interwar and post‑war housing and small green corridors following local streams such as the River Holme.
The area carries a clear industrial heritage from the 19th‑century woollen trade, visible in former mill buildings and tight-knit terraces, but today it is a mixed community of commuters, local shopkeepers and long‑standing residents. Regeneration and community projects sit alongside modest local centres, and its proximity to Huddersfield gives residents good transport links, cultural venues and easy access to nearby moorland for leisure.
