Almondbury sits on the eastern fringe of the borough of Kirklees in West Yorkshire, just above Huddersfield, and keeps a distinctly village-like character despite being part of the urban area. The centre is noted for its older stone-built streets and a conservation area reflecting medieval and later development, while the surrounding slopes give good views across to the Pennines.
Today it is a mixed community of long-standing residents and commuters, with local shops, pubs, schools and small business estates contributing to the economy. There’s a strong sense of local identity and plenty of access to countryside walks, so the ward feels both well connected to the town and linked to the rural landscape of England’s north.
