There isn't a ward called Shevington in Knowsley; the Shevington ward and village sit in the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan in Greater Manchester, historically part of Lancashire. It occupies a semi-rural spot northwest of Wigan town centre near the valley of the River Douglas and the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, with relatively easy access to the M6 motorway.
Historically the area combined agriculture with small-scale coal and textile-related industries, but today it functions largely as a commuter community with local shops, schools and active community and sports clubs, plus plenty of footpaths and green space popular with walkers and cyclists; residents benefit from short journeys into Wigan and Manchester for work and services.
