The ward of Helmshore sits within the borough of Rossendale in Lancashire, England. Nestled in the Rossendale valley on the edge of the West Pennine Moors, it occupies a mix of steep valley sides, moorland and compact village streets, and lies close to the market towns of Rawtenstall and Ramsbottom.
Helmshore has a strong textile heritage: 19th-century cotton mills drove the local economy and several historic mill buildings survive as reminders of that industrial past, with preserved sites interpreting the village’s role in Lancashire’s boom. Today the area is largely residential with small local businesses, a friendly community feel and plenty of access for walkers and visitors to the surrounding moors, while many residents commute to nearby towns and to Manchester.
