Garstang is a compact market town and ward in the borough of Wyre, Lancashire, England, sitting on the banks of the River Wyre and straddling the old A6 route between Preston and Lancaster. Its location on the edge of the rolling hills of the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty gives it a rural, riverside feel while being easily commutable to nearby centres and the north-west coast at Blackpool.
Garstang retains a strong market-town character with a historic centre of Georgian and timber‑framed buildings, independent shops and weekly markets, and an economy rooted in agriculture, small businesses and tourism. It is perhaps best known for community-led initiatives: in 2000 it became noted internationally for being the first town to adopt Fairtrade status, reflecting an active civic life and local food culture.
