Thornton in Wyre is a village and civil parish on the broad, flat coastal plain of the Fylde in Lancashire, England, sitting close to the salt marshes of the Wyre estuary. Historically an agricultural settlement (the name Thornton meaning a farmstead by thorn bushes), it grew in the 19th and 20th centuries and now forms part of the built-up area alongside Cleveleys and lies between Fleetwood and Poulton-le-Fylde.
Today Thornton in Wyre has a village feel with local shops, clubs and community activities, while many residents commute to nearby centres such as Blackpool and Preston. The proximity to the estuary and coastal reserves gives it interest for birdwatching and nature, and its history as a small market and farming community still shapes the local character.
