Kippax is a village and civil parish in the metropolitan borough of Leeds, situated in West Yorkshire around eight miles east of the city centre. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, it expanded notably in the 19th century with coal mining and related industries and still shows that layered past in its built environment and street pattern.
Today Kippax is largely a commuter community with a compact village centre, local shops, pubs and active voluntary and sports clubs that contribute to a strong local identity; its proximity to both urban amenities and surrounding countryside makes it popular with families seeking a mix of village life and easy access to Leeds and other parts of England.
