Freiston is a small village and civil parish in the borough of Boston, Lincolnshire, England, set on the reclaimed, low-lying fenland a few miles from The Wash. The landscape is dominated by rich arable fields, drainage channels and sea banks, so agriculture and the practicalities of flood defences shape the local economy and way of life; many people also commute into Boston for work and services.
The village is best known for the nearby coastal reserve at Freiston Shore, prized by birdwatchers for winter waders, migrating wildfowl and seasonal seal sightings on the mudflats, and managed in partnership with conservation groups. There are also medieval traces in the parish - earthworks from Freiston Priory and an old parish church of St James’ - and the community retains a quiet village feel shaped by a long history of land reclamation and memories of the 1953 North Sea flood.
