Leagrave sits on the northern edge of Luton, centred on the old village by Leagrave railway station on the Midland Main Line. The ward takes its name from the River Lea, which rises nearby and feeds the locally valued Leagrave Marsh nature reserve and pocket parks that give a green feel on the town’s fringe; the chalk ridge of Sundon Hills lies just to the north.
Historically the arrival of the railway in the 19th century helped transform a rural settlement into a commuter suburb, and today it is a mixed area of suburban streets, light industrial units and local shops. The community is socially diverse with active neighbourhood groups, schools and sports clubs, and strong commuter links to Luton town centre and London via frequent rail services.
