Burgh Castle is the impressive ruin of a late-Roman Saxon Shore fort standing on a marshy headland near Great Yarmouth in Norfolk, England. Its massive flint walls survive in places to around 5 metres and the site overlooks Breydon Water and the meeting of the rivers Waveney and Yare, giving broad views across the Norfolk Broads; there are also traces of later medieval occupation within the fort's enclosure.
Now cared for as a historic site, it is popular with walkers, birdwatchers and local-history enthusiasts and contributes modestly to the tourism economy of Great Yarmouth and the surrounding Broads. As a Scheduled Ancient Monument it provides a tangible link to late Roman Britain and to the maritime and agricultural landscape that has shaped much of East Anglia.
