Bacton is a small coastal village in North Norfolk, in the county of Norfolk on the eastern edge of England. It sits directly beside the North Sea with shingle and sandy beaches backed by dunes and reedbeds, making it popular for coastal walks, birdwatching and the caravan park holiday trade; the shoreline is also shaped by ongoing sea‑defence work and occasional erosion.
Despite its quiet, rural feel the village is notable for the nearby Bacton Gas Terminal, a major energy hub receiving gas from offshore fields and pipelines that has brought local employment and national significance. Traditional farming and a medieval parish church hint at the village’s long history, while a small, close‑knit community manages the tensions between tourism, industry and coastal management.
