Burston is a small rural village in South Norfolk, in the county of Norfolk, set in gently rolling farmland close to the Norfolk–Suffolk border and within easy reach of Norwich. It remains largely agricultural with a tight‑knit community, traditional cottages and farmsteads, and a number of residents who commute to nearby towns.
The village is best known for the Burston Strike School, born from the famous 1914–1939 teachers' strike led by Annie and Tom Higdon; the original school building survives as a museum and is the focus of an annual rally that draws people interested in labour history and local activism. Beyond that episode, Burston typifies the quieter character of rural East Anglia, with community events and village life shaped by the agricultural calendar.
