Sherburn in Elmet is a sizeable village and civil parish in North Yorkshire, England, sitting a few miles east of Leeds and north of Selby and within easy commuting distance of York. It has a railway station on the Leeds–Selby line and a nearby airfield, Sherburn Aerodrome, so despite its village feel it functions as both a local service centre and a commuter base for the larger cities.
The village takes its unusual name from the ancient Brittonic kingdom of Elmet and has medieval roots visible in its street pattern and parish church; today the local economy is a mix of agriculture, small industry and commuter households. Community life is lively for a place of its size, with sports clubs, shops and regular events that sustain a distinct local identity while remaining closely connected to the wider region.
