Monk Fryston is a compact village and civil parish in North Yorkshire, sitting on the edge of the Ouse valley close to the market town of Selby and within easy reach of York. Its waterside position by the River Aire and the Selby Canal provides pleasant walks and attracts boaters and cyclists, giving the area a relaxed, rural feel.
Historically the village grew around agriculture and an Augustinian priory, and its character is still marked by the parish church, a couple of traditional pubs and the nearby Monk Fryston Hall. Today the local economy is largely commuter- and farming-based, with a small but active community centred on the village hall, primary school and occasional local events.
