Swinton is a small village and civil parish in North Yorkshire, a few miles from Masham on the southern fringe of the Yorkshire Dales. It sits in rolling dales countryside near the River Ure and is best known for the 19th‑century country house of Swinton Park, a restored estate with walled gardens, hotel, spa and estate grounds that shape the local landscape.
Historically the family seat of the Cunliffe‑Lister family (later Earls of Swinton), the estate has influenced the parish’s economy and character - agriculture, estate management and tourism are important - while the village retains a quiet, community‑minded feel with links to nearby market towns and the outdoor pursuits of the Dales.
