Haydon Bridge is a compact village on the banks of the River South Tyne, where the A69 and the Tyne Valley railway link it to Hexham and Newcastle. Sitting on the western edge of Northumberland and close to the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it’s popular with walkers, anglers and cyclists who enjoy the river valley and nearby upland scenery.
Named after its historic stone bridge, the settlement has roots in agriculture and the wider rural industries of the area (including past lead-mining in the hills), and today supports a mix of local businesses, tourism and commuters. The village has a lively community life - with events, a village hall, pubs and a station on the Tyne Valley line - and makes a convenient base for exploring Hadrian's Wall country and other local heritage.
