Aspley is a northern suburb and electoral ward of Nottingham, lying a few miles north‑west of the Nottingham city centre. Its name likely comes from Old English for an aspen clearing, and the area expanded from agricultural land into a largely 20th‑century residential neighbourhood with a mix of interwar and post‑war council housing alongside private homes. It is served by good bus links into the city and sits close to the city’s main transport routes, making it convenient for commuters.
The ward is a mixed community with local shops, schools, community centres and green open spaces that help give it a village feel despite being part of the city. Like many outer urban estates it has seen pockets of economic challenge and council‑led regeneration, but also active neighbourhood groups and sports clubs that contribute to a strong local identity and ongoing community-led improvements.
