Grantham is a market town in the district of South Kesteven in Lincolnshire, England, sitting on the banks of the River Witham and close to the Vale of Belvoir. Its position on the A1 road and the East Coast Main Line has long made it a transport hub between Nottingham, Lincoln and London, with a mix of historic streets and newer retail and industrial estates.
The town has a strong historic and cultural identity: it grew around markets and engineering industries and today hosts museums and arts venues that reflect that past. It is also notable as the childhood home of a young Isaac Newton, who attended the King's School, and for being the birthplace of Margaret Thatcher; nearby Woolsthorpe-by-Colsterworth is visited for its Newton connections. Socially, Grantham combines traditional market-town life with modern commuter and manufacturing influences.
