East Retford North is a mostly residential ward in the northern part of the market town of Retford, within the district of Bassetlaw in Nottinghamshire. It combines Victorian terraces and more recent housing estates with local shops, schools and community facilities, and benefits from green corridors and parkland along the River Idle that give the area a semi-rural feel despite its proximity to the town centre.
Locally the ward’s character reflects Retford’s long history as a market town and service centre: small businesses, light industry on the town’s outskirts and a significant commuter population make up the economy, supported by good road and rail links. Community groups, parish events and conservation of the town’s 18th- and 19th-century architecture contribute to a strong sense of local identity.
