Scunthorpe is an industrial town in North Lincolnshire, England, perched on the edge of the flat agricultural plains and within easy reach of the Humber and the rolling hills of the Lincolnshire Wolds. It grew rapidly in the 19th century after ironstone was found nearby, and the big steelworks shaped both the landscape and the local identity - the town is still commonly known as "The Iron". The name itself comes from Old Norse, essentially meaning a small farm or settlement, reflecting its long rural roots before industrial expansion.

Today Scunthorpe mixes heavy-industry heritage with efforts at regeneration, community culture and local leisure: fans follow Scunthorpe United at Glanford Park, and there are smaller cultural hubs such as the Plowright Theatre and the North Lincolnshire Museum. Economically and socially the town has had to adapt to changes in steel and manufacturing, which gives it a character marked by practical resilience and a strong local community spirit.
