Misson is a small village and civil parish in the district of Bassetlaw in Nottinghamshire, sitting in the very north of the county close to the border with South Yorkshire. It lies beside the River Idle on the reclaimed wetlands of Hatfield Chase, a flat, low‑lying landscape marked by drains and dykes and valued for birdlife; the nearby Misson Carr nature reserve is notable for reedbeds, wet woodland and good opportunities for birdwatching and angling.
Historically the locality was reshaped by 17th‑century drainage and peat cutting, and today the economy remains largely agricultural with many people commuting to nearby towns such as Retford and Doncaster. Despite its small size the village retains a strong community spirit, with a pub, village hall and active parish council and local groups involved in conserving the surrounding landscape and wildlife.
