Finningley is a small village and civil parish in the Metropolitan Borough of Doncaster, in South Yorkshire, England, set in a fairly flat, low-lying landscape crossed by the River Torne. It sits close to the site of the former Doncaster Sheffield Airport and has good road links to the A1 and the nearby towns of Bawtry, Doncaster and Sheffield.
The village’s identity has long been shaped by RAF Finningley, a former bomber base noted for its Avro Vulcans and popular airshows; after military closure the airfield became Doncaster Sheffield Airport, which supported local jobs until its closure in 2022 and has since been the focus of regeneration discussion. Today Finningley remains a small, rural community with farming, commuter residents and aviation-linked businesses contributing to its economy, alongside a strong village character and a few local amenities.
