Bilsthorpe is a village and civil parish in the district of Newark and Sherwood, in Nottinghamshire, England. It lies on the northern fringe of the county within easy reach of Sherwood Forest and the towns of Mansfield and Newark-on-Trent, giving a semi-rural feel while remaining well connected to larger centres.
Historically the community grew around coal working and the former Bilsthorpe Colliery, and that mining heritage still shapes local identity and memorials. Since the pit’s closure the parish has diversified into light industry and commuter housing, with a close-knit social scene centred on the village hall, sports clubs and local events that reflect its working-class roots and countryside location.
