Islip is a small village and civil parish in the Cherwell district of Oxfordshire, England, lying on the banks of the River Ray a few miles north of Oxford. It retains a compact, stone-built centre and a surrounding patchwork of arable fields and meadows, giving it a distinctly rural feel despite good road links into the city.
The village is best known for its long history - local tradition names it as the birthplace of Edward the Confessor - and its medieval parish church remains a focal point. Today Islip combines agricultural roots with a commuter population, a lively local community, occasional village events and a handful of shops and pubs, so it balances country character with easy access to urban services.
