Cirencester is a historic market town on the southern edge of the Cotswold hills in Gloucestershire, England. Its broad market square, honey‑coloured Cotswold stone buildings and tree‑lined streets sit alongside the small River Churn, giving a compact town centre with regular markets, independent shops and a steady flow of visitors from the surrounding countryside.
The town grew from the large Roman settlement of Corinium (Corinium Dobunnorum), and Roman archaeology is still visible in the layout and the displays at the Corinium Museum; later landmarks include the parish church and the landscaped Cirencester Park. Today it blends agriculture, education - notably the Royal Agricultural University - a lively antiques and hospitality sector, and commuter links to nearby Cheltenham and Gloucester, so it balances tourism with a strong local community life.
