Great Tew is a small village and civil parish in West Oxfordshire, Oxfordshire, England, perched on the gentle limestone hills of the Cotswolds fringe a few miles north of Chipping Norton. The settlement is known for its honey‑coloured stone houses, walled garden and parkland on the traditional estate, together with ponds and small streams that give the area a distinctly rural, walkable character.
Historically the estate has manorial roots and in the 17th century was the focus of the so‑called Great Tew Circle, a gathering of writers and thinkers around Lord Falkland, which lends the village a quietly intellectual reputation. Today the local economy remains largely estate and agriculture based, supplemented by conservation, country pursuits and tourism, and the village is prized by walkers and visitors exploring the surrounding Cotswold countryside.
