Ilford Town is a compact central ward within the London Borough of Redbridge, sitting around the busy retail and transport hub of Ilford town centre beside the River Roding. It’s well connected - Ilford railway station now benefits from the Elizabeth line - and the ward includes key green space such as Valentines Park, with its Georgian mansion and lake, offering a contrast to the high street and shopping precincts.
The area is culturally diverse and lively, with a strong South Asian presence reflected in shops, restaurants and community events, and a mix of long-standing local businesses and regeneration projects around the Exchange shopping area. Historically part of Essex before becoming part of Greater London in 1965, Ilford also has industrial and commercial roots - home to the photographic firm often known as Ilford Photo - and civic landmarks such as Redbridge Town Hall give the ward a civic as well as commercial character.
