Little Ilford is an electoral ward in the London Borough of Newham, situated in east London. Historically part of Essex, the area grew up beside the River Roding and the low-lying marshes that fed the nearby creeks, evolving from rural parish origins into a patchwork of housing and light industry as dockland and transport links expanded in the 19th and 20th centuries.
Today the ward is a densely populated, multicultural neighbourhood with a mix of post‑war council housing, private terraces and newer developments, supported by local shops, schools and community centres. Its economy and daily life are shaped by good transport connections and proximity to the Royal Docks and central London, while strong local networks and small-scale businesses give it a distinctly local character within the wider borough.
