Greasbrough is a suburb and former village just to the north of Rotherham in South Yorkshire, England. It sits on the fringe of the town’s built-up area with a mix of post‑war and older housing, local shops, schools and small green spaces, and functions as a largely residential area for people working in Rotherham and nearby Sheffield.
Historically the settlement expanded with 19th‑century coal mining and associated industry, which has left a strong working‑class character and local pride in its heritage. Today Greasbrough has a modest local economy, active community groups and sports clubs, and ongoing local interest in preserving green areas and memorials while adapting to the post‑industrial economy of the wider borough.
