Thurcroft is a village and civil parish on the southern edge of the Metropolitan Borough of Rotherham in South Yorkshire, lying within easy reach of both Rotherham and Sheffield. It occupies formerly agricultural land that was reshaped in the 20th century by coal mining, so the settlement has a mix of older farm-related features and more densely built miners’ housing and community facilities clustered around the former pit.
Its identity is strongly shaped by that mining past - memorials, social clubs, a brass-band tradition and welfare sports teams still mark the village’s communal life - while landmarks such as Thurcroft Hall and local green spaces provide historic and recreational focus. In recent decades the local economy has shifted towards commuting, light industry and small businesses, but community groups and events remain important to village life.
