Eccles is a town in the City of Salford, in Greater Manchester, England, sitting on the north bank of the River Irwell a few miles west of Manchester city centre. It has good transport links, including a Metrolink tram stop, and lies close to the redeveloped Salford Quays and MediaCityUK, which shape much of the local commuting and leisure pattern.
Historically part of Lancashire and shaped by textiles and engineering, Eccles is best known for the Eccles cake and retains pockets of Victorian architecture and an active town centre. Recent regeneration has brought new housing, independent shops, cafés and community arts activity, so the town combines a strong local identity with the economic pull of nearby Manchester and the Quays.
