Derby is a ward in the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton, in Merseyside, forming part of the urban area around Bootle just north of Liverpool. It is primarily residential, with a mixture of Victorian terraces and post‑war housing, local shopping parades and small green spaces, and is well connected by bus routes into the wider Merseyside conurbation.
Historically the ward’s fortunes have been shaped by the expansion of Liverpool’s docks and the industrial growth of the 19th and 20th centuries; in recent decades there have been regeneration efforts and active community groups tackling social challenges. The area is socially mixed, with a visible local civic life centred on community centres, schools and neighbourhood initiatives aimed at improving housing, employment prospects and public services.
