Lydiate is a semi-rural civil parish in the borough of Sefton, Merseyside, in England, lying a few miles north of Liverpool. The landscape mixes farmland, small woodlands and residential ribbon development, and is crossed by the historic Leeds and Liverpool Canal; locally notable heritage includes the moated site and remains of Lydiate Hall and the much-photographed historic pub, the Scotch Piper Inn.
The community combines a strong village feel with commuter links into the city, supporting local shops, small businesses and horticultural enterprises; social life revolves around parish events, church activities and conservation efforts to protect its greenbelt character. Its history – from medieval manorial roots through agricultural life to suburban pressures – gives the area a layered, quietly distinctive character.
