Snailbeach is a small village in rural Shropshire, England, tucked into rolling farmland and hills in the county’s west. The setting is quiet and largely agricultural, with numerous footpaths and wildlife-rich spoil heaps left over from its industrial past that are popular with local naturalists and walkers.
Its identity is dominated by a long history of lead mining - the Snailbeach district was one of the county’s most important mining areas - and the landscape still shows well‑preserved industrial archaeology such as shafts, spoil tips and engine‑house remains. Since the mines closed the village has relied on farming, conservation and small‑scale heritage tourism, with an active local interest in preserving and interpreting the mining story.
