Filton is a suburb and small town in South Gloucestershire, England, sitting on the northern fringe of Bristol. It grew from a village into a commuter and industrial suburb with good road and rail links - close to the M5 and served by Filton Abbey Wood station - making it convenient for people working in the city and the surrounding tech corridor.
Filton is best known for its long association with the aerospace industry: for decades it hosted factories, test facilities and research centres responsible for projects such as Concorde and continues to house major employers in aircraft and engine manufacture. The former Filton Airfield and nearby works shaped much of the town’s economy and identity; today the area mixes residential neighbourhoods, schools and light‑industrial estates alongside newer housing and enterprise developments linked to the aerospace and engineering cluster.
