Trowbridge is the county town of Wiltshire in England, sitting on the little River Biss and shaped by its 18th–19th century woollen cloth industry. The town grew around mills, canals and later the railway, and you can still see converted mill buildings and Victorian terraces that speak to that industrial past. It lies within easy reach of Bath and the fringes of the Cotswolds, with countryside and the broad plain of Salisbury Plain not far away.
Today Trowbridge has a mixed economy of retail, light industry and commuters travelling to larger nearby centres such as Bath and Bristol, while local cultural life is grounded in a museum and community arts, a regular market and parks along the river. The town keeps a strong local identity rooted in its industrial heritage even as its social profile has diversified in recent decades.
