Rudyard is a small village in the Staffordshire Moorlands, Staffordshire, England, set beside Rudyard Lake, a long reservoir on the River Churnet in the Churnet Valley and within easy reach of Leek. The lakeside and surrounding countryside give the area a pleasant mix of rolling moorland and wooded walking routes popular with day-trippers and local ramblers.
The lake was created as a reservoir for the Caldon Canal during the Industrial Revolution and later became a Victorian leisure spot; that heritage survives in attractions such as the preserved Rudyard Lake Steam Railway and waterside promenades. The village is also famously linked to the writer Rudyard Kipling, who was named after the lake, and today the local economy relies largely on tourism, outdoor recreation and small-scale rural services.
