Leek is a compact historic market town on a hillside in the Staffordshire Moorlands district of Staffordshire, England, sitting close to the southern edge of the Peak District. It grew as a medieval market centre and later prospered in the 18th–19th century with textile and silk working; the town still shows a mix of Georgian and Victorian architecture and benefits from easy access to countryside features such as the River Churnet, Tittesworth Reservoir and the gritstone escarpments of The Roaches.
Today Leek functions as the service and administrative heart of the local district, with a lively market, independent shops, cafés and a small but visible arts scene; tourism and outdoor recreation from walkers and rock-climbers boost the local economy alongside light industry and commuting links to nearby centres such as Stoke-on-Trent. The town retains a strong community feel, hosting regular markets and events that reflect its rural Moorlands setting.
